Quotes, Session Two

I thought I would do another post on Quotes, b/c last time everyone seemed to really enjoy my previous post on quotes, which you can find here. I hope you like what I've put together for you today!

“Anyone who thinks sitting in church can make you a Christian must also think that sitting in a garage can make you a car.”
-Garrison Keiller

“The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.”
-C.S. Lewis

“Hate the sin, love the sinner.”
-Mahatma Ghandi

“All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

“It is when we notice the dirt that God is most present in us; it is the very sign of His presence.”
-C.S. Lewis

“God allows us to experience the low points of life in order to teach us lessons that we could learn in no other way.”
-C.S. Lewis

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
-Maya Angelou

“I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.”
-May Angelou

“Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love,
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy. "

-St.Francis of Assisi

"The beginning of love is the will to let those we love be perfectly themselves, the resolution not to twist them to fit our own image. If in loving them we do not love what they are, but only their potential likeness to ourselves, then we do not love them."
-Thomas Merton

"A man knows when he has found his vocation when he stops thinking about how to live and begins to live."
-Thomas Merton

"Anxiety is the mark of spiritual insecurity."
-Thomas Merton

"Forgiveness is the name of love practiced among people who love poorly. The hard truth is that all people love poorly. We need to forgive and be forgiven every day, every hour increasinly. That is the great work of love among the fellowship of the weak that is the human family."
-Henri Nouwen

"A waiting person is a patient person. The word patience means the willingness to stay where we are and live the situation out to the full in the belief that something hidden there will manifest itself to us."
-Henri Nouwen

"Becoming the beloved is pulling the truth revealed to me from above down into the ordinariness of what I am, in fact, thinking of, talking about and doing from hour to hour."
-Henri Nouwen

I so wish I could sit and have coffee with you!

“Let nothing disturb thee; Let nothing dismay thee; All thing pass; God never changes. Patience attains All that it strives for. He who has God Finds he lacks nothing:God alone suffices.”
-St. Teresa of Avila

“Pain is never permanent”
-St.Teresa of Avila

Wow, is it weird that "Pain is never permanent." made me tear up? Apparently I needed that reminder today and didn't even realize it. Great quotes Gina.

I love the ones by C.S Lewis and the first one made me laugh :D I'm doing a meditation course right now and I can really relate. I just realize how much work it is to come with grips with the spiritual side of ourselves... Really hard work! Thank you for sharing these!
