Pelvic Belt Update
Hey guys, I'm sorry I have had a lack of posts this week. I hadn't been feeling good and could tell something was off. I ended up calling the nurse and told her my symptoms and she told me to go to the Hospital to get some fluids. It turns out my potassium was low and I needed 2 full bags of fluids through the IV, due to dehydration and a small bag of magnesium.
Apparently with this new rehabilitation program I am in, it can throw me off physiologically. It can make my electrolytes go bonkers. So I was there for about 6 hours, and am home resting now but still feeling pretty crummy. They gave me something for my 4 day headache but it's not completely gone, so I am going to rest for a few days here and see how I do. The new program I am in for my spine and pelvis is basically making me sick. So I'll have to figure it out with them if I need to slow down or what.
As long as I am talking about it, why don't I give you an update on my lovely belt! If you aren't up to speed, you can catch up here. I know I have a few new readers, which makes me so so happy and hello to you all!
So it's been close to a month now that I've been wearing this belt. First thing. I am not wearing the original belt that I had. It was too big! It was digging into my skin so I figured something wasn't quite right. I upgraded the niceness of it too, it's softer, so I am embracing the belt a bit more.
I had a rough rough start to this belt and here's why; I couldn't get it to fit quite right around my pelvis, I wasn't good at putting it on, and I'd get frustrated like crazy and want to throw the belt in the garbage! I also was having trouble sitting comfortably. It's so so hard to get use to something being around you that feels so constricting. And finding the right clothes to wear has been a total challenge.
Negatives of the belt:
-If I don't sleep with it on, I have to put it on before I get out of bed. So reaching for it in the morning is a piece of work and then I have to lay flat on my back and it takes some time to get adjusted.
-My husband has introduced me to the lovely product Gold Bond! I have it in powder form and deodorant stick form, and it's for redness, itching and burning, which I get everyday under the belt so the Gold Bond has given me some relief. I'm grateful for it actually! So I guess this should be a positive. You should see me try to put this stuff on, I end up with white powder in my face and on the floor--it's a total hoot. Straight up comedy show:-)
-Not being able to wear the clothes I want to wear. I miss so many things in my wardrobe by now but I am adjusting somewhat to wearing lounge wear most days.
-It makes it very difficult to know what to wear if I am going somewhere dressier. It's such a challenge.
-It is itchy throughout the day most days
-I am not enjoying my muffin tops due to the belt being pulled so tight!
Positives of the belt:
-it is becoming more like it's a part of me, and more comfortable
-I am getting more the hang of it on how to put it on and that is going easier and faster.
-I hear less cracks in my pelvis!!!
-I feel more sturdy and more secure when I do things around the house, like laundry and dishes. It's almost becoming like a security blanket. I'm becoming more use to it, like sometimes I don't even notice it.
-I am excited for my character to grow and build from this experience. I know that through these long months I will be challenged in new ways, which in turn will make me stronger.
-drawing closer to God in my sadness and He comforts me
-it is a gift that can/will help me be able to do more of what I want to do active wise later down the road
-Getting in and out of the car is going easier with the belt on.
It's still only been a month or so, and there are times where I am so fed up I just yank it off because I need a break! But there is a small possibility I may have to wear it forever...we just have to see how these 9 months go first.
I hope that is a good update for ya, I am sure there will be new updates to share along the way or a couple months out, but I just wanted to give you a glimpse of what it's been like thus far. I'm feeling pretty crappy so I'm gonna sign off here. I hope you are all well!
I am not sure now if I need a break in my program for a day or two to get better or what, I need to find out. My body just isn't use to so much physical movement, so it's a bit messed up right now. I haven't even done my exercises they give me for at home in days because I've felt so crummy. I have quite a few to do throughout the day that involve two different balls, a band, and some light stretching. While I am at the Rehabilitation program twice a week I have been using the Nu-Step for a little cardio, because I am not stable enough for the Treadmill or Elliptical machines.
I hope I am up to posting something a bit more exciting tomorrow or Friday, thank you for being patient with me, I adore you guys!
Nells never fails, and he is keeping me smiling and in good spirits.
